PRESENTATION

15 May 2023 online

12-15 June 2023 on site, University of Rennes, France

[Pre-registration open]

May 15 will be dedicated to a introduction to point clouds in the geosciences, classification and machine learning.

Fom 12 to 15 June, theoretical background and practical applications.

In addition to the teaching, 4 invited speakers will present thier work in particular but not only on deep learning on 3D point clouds. It will be possible to remotely attend the invited conferences without registration and details will be made available at a later date.

Audience

  • Early career researchers (e.g., postdoctoral researchers, lecturers, and Asst. Professors)
  • Graduate students
  • Rsearch support engineers
  • Staff from companies and agencies using point clouds in the field of geosciences

Objectives

  • Understanding classical airborne-lidar tools to classify points, especially ground points: principles, caveats, and pitfalls.
  • Concepts of machine learning for classification and introduction to deep learning.
  • Creating labels for improved classification with CloudCompare and Python-based approaches.
  • Learn how to use 3DMASC, a new classification plugin for CloudCompare.
  • Learn how to use Python for custom-based point cloud classification.
  • Applying the tools on various datasets (natural and mixed urban environments) from different sources: ALS, TLS, SfM.

The organizers are still finalizing the program and we are selecting invited speakers. The program will be updated and will be accessible from the main menu (top left menu).

Please note that programming skills in Python are expected from the audience!

Registration

The number of students being limited to 30 as a maximum, this will be a two-step registration:

  1. Pre-registration on the website until 31 March (please fill in carefully the section Status / motivation of the form)
  2. Final registration and online payments (in case of validation) will take place at the beginning of April.

Registration fees

  • Graduate students and other early career researchers 150€
  • Staff from private sector 1000€

All pauses, lunches (12, 13, 14, 15) and dinners except 14 June (12, 13, 15) are included in the registration fees.

Accommodation is not included.
